The Chiefs' entire family – along with the rest of the NFL – is mourning the news of Len Dawson's passing on Wednesday. It was announced early on Wednesday morning that Dawson had passed away at the age of 87, and almost immediately, the tributes and kind words began flowing. Speaking to 610's Fescoe In The Morning, Chiefs Historian Bob Moore explained what kind of impact Dawson had on the team and sport in general.
"The thing about Len was, the game was never too big for Len," he said. "If you really spoke to Len about the game, and if you listened to him on the radio, you saw that even though the years had passed, he didn't forget anything and was able to analyze it very well. But to talk about players who followed him, if you recall, Len could be critical on the radio, but he was never, ever dismissive ... If you take a look at Len, his position in Kansas City sports, in my opinion is #1. Not because he's better than other people, but because he was the first. He was the first guy. I think you could people like George Brett and Tom Watson in the conversation, and certainly any of those men would legitimately rank as number one. I only say Len because he was the first – he brought Kansas City immediate success."
