(610 Sports) – The Kansas City Chiefs have had a busy morning attempting to get their roster down to the 53 player in-season limit. Several veterans who were expected to make the final roster were among the casualties this morning.
Among those who learned their fate on Tuesday morning, were veteran defensive tackles Danny Shelton and Taylor Stallworth, as well as veteran wide receiver Josh Gordon.
Shelton was a late addition to the training camp roster, joining the team in mid-August. It’s possible that he’s back with the team after the team makes that transaction tomorrow.
A free-agent signing by Kansas City this offseason, Stallworth had a productive preseason with two sacks and five total pressures. He previously spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts.
According to NFL Agent Brett Tessler of Tessler Sports, the Chiefs want Stallworth back on the practice squad, but don't be surprised if another team decides to offer him something more. Stallworth is vested, so he’s not subject to waivers and free to shop around. A team to watch out for is the Atlanta Falcons.
Gordon, 31, spent the 2021 season with the Chiefs, catching five passes for 32 yards and a touchdown. He was unable to distinguish himself from a deep receiving corps in Kansas City that includes JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mecole Hardman, Justin Watson and rookie Skyy Moore.
"Appreciate all the Chiefs kingdom has done for me and my family this past year," Gordon wrote on Twitter. "Thanks for the opportunity and the many memories."
Expect a practice squad stash here for the Chiefs who reportedly like Gordon but he was just crowded out due to a “numbers game”.
