Chiefs draft Purdue DE George Karlaftis with the 30th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft

Not long after taking University of Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie with the 21st overall pick, the Chiefs drafted Purdue DE George Karlaftis with the 30th overall pick on Thursday night:

Per NFL.com, Karlaftis has "good power and a relentless motor to keep the heat on offensive counterparts throughout the game," and "a force-based rusher with anchor-busting power and the ability to get to his counters when the rush begins to stall." In three years at Purdue, Karlaftis put up 14 sacks, three forced fumbles, and 94 total tackles. He put up the second-best pressure rate in the Big 10 in 2021, behind only Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson. Karlaftis fills a huge need for the Chiefs, who were looking for pass-rushing depth to go along with Chris Jones and Frank Clark.

The pick wraps up the Chiefs first night at the 2022 NFL Draft. On Friday they'll pick three times -- twice in the 2nd round (50, 62) and once in the third (103).
