(610 Sports) – Looking for a spark on the defensive side of the ball, the Chiefs are making a big change ahead of today's matchup against the Washington Football Team.

Sources are reporting that the team will start safety Juan Thornhill over veteran Daniel Sorenson, who will be relegated to a reserve role.

The move comes following a blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills in which Sorenson gave up several big plays, including a 61-yard pass to Stefon Diggs and a 53-yard touchdown to Bills' tight-end Dawson Knox.

Pro Football Focus has graded Sorensen last among K.C. defenders this year and 83rd among 85 safeties in the NFL with 100-plus snaps. By contrast, Thornhill is fourth among K.C. defenders and 29th among 85 safeties with more than 100 snaps.

The Chiefs defense is currently 31st in yards and 32nd in points allowed, While the move is sure to give the secondary a jolt, it's not the only position that has struggled on that side of the ball. The Chiefs have struggled to put pressure on the quarterback, ranking last in the league with 1.4 quarterback sacks per game and 30th in rushing yards allowed, giving up 141 yards per game on the ground.
