Could the Chiefs really start three rookies on their offensive line in 2021?

Pete Sweeney joined Fescoe In The Morning to talk about training camp's big question.

When Chiefs GM Brett Veach made a pledge to overhaul the team's offensive line following their Super Bowl loss, I'm not sure 'maybe start three rookies' is exactly what he had in mind. And yet, as players put on pads for the first time on Tuesday, it seems like that may end up being a distinct possibility. Is that really the plan? Can the Chiefs afford to be so inexperienced up front? Arrowhead Pride's editor-in-chief Pete Sweeney called into Fescoe In The Mornings -- while driving up to camp -- and gave his two cents:

"I shifted my mind already, in a sense, about what this final offensive line is going to look like," Sweeney said. "I walked into training camp and was ready to put into ink the three, four, other than right guard. I thought that Mike Remmers would be locked in, Creed Humphrey, and we know about Thuney and Brown. I was thinking, 'OK, Trey Smith is really going to have to prove himself. But Trey Smith has been pretty much -- and I've been watching him like a fox when he's practicing -- taken 100% of the right guard [snaps]. I really think they're preparing him to be the right guard, and where this becomes interesting is with Mike Remmers and the back spasms he's had the last few days, Lucas Niang has been thrown into the fire. And that's with two full day of practices.

"I understand that Mike Remmers is a veteran with a lot of starts in this league. I believe dating back to 2015, he's had at least 10 starts on the offensive line each year, but I think Niang is giving him a run for his money because he's getting an opportunity to play next to some these guys. Rookie or not, especially in the padded practice today, if he can hold up his own when you're at 100% full-throttle intensity against Chris Jones and Frank Clark, and Niang is doing a good job in these OL and DL live periods, then I think you're going to see Niang have a chance to do this."
