Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes entered training camp fully recovered from offseason foot surgery. He hasn't experienced any sort of limitations or restrictions on the field.
And while it's possible for a banged-up Mahomes to lead the Chiefs' offense and thrive under the bright lights -- it's happened before -- he's been making some worthwhile adjustments to his game, according to Kansas City reporter Dani Welniak.
"He's working very diligently on pocket presence and being more confident stepping up into the pocket, rather than rolling out too soon, dropping back too far, and putting himself in harm's way in those situations," Welniak told After Hours with Amy Lawrence on Friday. "So, hopefully that ends up working out for him. He says he's 100-percent, from what we've seen during the preseason... From what I've seen physically, he looks very, very good to go."
Last season, Mahomes completed 66.3-percent of his passes for 4,740 yards with 38 touchdowns and just six interceptions. The former league MVP didn't end the season with a championship, however, as the Chiefs' offense was stifled in a blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55.
Kansas City will open the 2021 season at home against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 12. According to the William Hill Sportsbook, the Chiefs currently have the best odds to win the AFC West (-320) and Super Bowl 56 (+500).
