Mahomes: 'Nothing will ever be as important as football is to me.'

Chiefs quarterback says his busy life isn't taking away from his focus on football

(610 Sports) – Following a 27-3 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 7, the Kansas City Chiefs are now 3-4 and find themselves sitting alongside the Denver Broncos, at the bottom of the AFC West. An unfamiliar place for a team that's been in back-to-back Super Bowls.

While it may not be that surprising to see the Chiefs defense give up 27 points, it is very surprising, however, to see that they were only able to muster a single field goal, against a Titans defense allowing 27.3 pts/game this season, heading into their tilt with Kansas City.

The one thing this team could count on was the offense. They could simply outscore an opponent, regardless of how bad their defense played... Or so we thought.

The assumption has been that the early season turnover issues would correct themselves, after all, Patrick Mahomes has a track record of protecting the football and limiting the mistakes, so surely the ship would right itself. Well, here we are, 7 weeks into the season and the issues are all still there. Another interception, two more fumbles, and for the first time this season, a completion percentage below 60%.

Maybe it's time we ask the tough question... What's wrong with Patrick Mahomes? Is he too distracted by the things he has going on away from the football field? Is he putting in the work? Is there still a belief in the locker room that this team can turn things around?

Patrick Mahomes joined us on Monday afternoon and Carrington Harrison of 610 Sports 'The Drive,' did just that, and here's what the Chiefs quarterback had to say.

"You have a really busy life, a lot of things have changed in your life. I think fans want to know, has that taken away some of your focus, has that changed your routine, changed your schedule a little bit, everything you have going on," asked Harrison?

"No, not at all," said Mahomes. "Nothing will ever be as important as football is to me. I mean it's kinda family, faith and football. I know people talk about it but that's how I've always lived my life and those things will always be the most important things to me."

"I have other people that help me out and take things off my plate and they know when it's football season, I don't do anything but football," Mahomes continued. "That's how I roll, football is what got me here and I'm not gonna let that go by the side and that's how it's gonna be for the rest of my career."

There ya go, take it or leave it. This is a team with its back against the wall and we've heard the talk, it's now time for Patrick Mahomes and company to walk the walk.
