(610 Sports) – It wasn't the prettiest win but the Kansas City Chiefs came from behind to win yet another close game on Sunday night as they beat the Tennessee Titans, 20-17, in overtime on Sunday Night Football.
The Chiefs struggled to get into a consistent offensive rhythm, scoring points on their first two possessions but coming up empty on their next seven drives.
Thankfully, this team is led by Patrick Mahomes who thrives in these situations.
With just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Mahomes and the Chiefs began what would end up as a 93-yard scoring drive that ultimately tied the game at 17 points apiece. The Chiefs picked up seven first downs on the drive, one of which was a 20-yard scramble by Mahomes on 3rd & 17 to extend the drive. Mahomes would end the drive with a 14-yard touchdown run and later use his legs to convert the two-point conversion, which tied the game and forced overtime. The Chiefs would end up winning the game on a 23-yard FG by kicker Harrison Butker.
Joining 610 Sports for his weekly appearance on 'The Drive,' Mahomes recapped the team's uneven offensive output in the win and heaped praise on one of his teammates, citing their toughness and dawg-like mentality on the football field that helped the team pull out the win.
"We were talking about the toughness, I thought JuJu really exemplified that yesterday, he just makes tough, really contested catches," said show host Carrington Harrison.
"Yeah, I mean he's a guy that loves it, man. He's a lot like Travis [Kelce] in that sense," said Mahomes. "He just wants to win, he's gonna battle to the very end of the game and I think people see the social media and how much joking around and having a good time, but when he gets on that field, man, he's a dawg out there. You need guys like that and luckily we've got a lot of them."
Smith-Schuster, for his part, hauled in 10 catches for 88 yards. None being bigger than his catch in overtime on 4th & 1, picking up the first-down and setting up Harrison Butker for the eventual game-winning field-goal.
Smith-Schuster has started to become what the team had envisioned, as of late. The sixth-year pro has 22 catches, 325 yards and 2 touchdowns over his last three games for the Chiefs.
