(610 Sports) – On a night where head scratching calls were aplenty, the Raiders decision to try for a two-point conversion instead of kicking an extra point to tie the game with nearly 4 and a half minutes left on the clock, still manages to stick out like a sore thumb.
During his weekly appearance on “The Drive”, Mahomes was asked about the bold call by Raiders' head coach Josh McDaniels and he offered up his opinion on McDaniels' decision to go for two.
Even if they get it, they're up one with five minutes to go and you've been in that situation a countless number of times," said show host Carrington Harrison. "You've got three timeouts plus the two-minute warning, I was actually surprised to see them go for two in that spot.
"Yeah, for sure. I think you said it, if it's a little bit less time I could see them doing that and trying to end it right there," said Mahomes. "It happened to me before, I believe the Chargers my first year starting, they score that 2-point conversion at the end of the game and they win and the game's over instead of overtime. But yeah, it was 4... I think it was like 4:27 left, even if they kick the extra point or if they go for two and get it, I feel like we're gonna have a good chance to get into field goal range with that much time left. They obviously were being aggressive and it worked for them on the 4th down and 1 where they got the first down, earlier in the game but yeah, in that situation I think we would have kicked the extra point and relied on our defense to got a stop or they kick a field goal and we go down and kick a field goal for the win."
