The Chiefs won almost-universal praise for their 2022 Draft class, with several of their 10 selections considered players who can, and might, contribute to the team early on in their careers. So which one may be the most impactful right away? Speaking with 610's Cody and Gold on Friday, Chiefs Insider and Arrowhead Pride Editor-In-Chief Pete Sweeney gave his answer.
"I think of all the rookies that exist and are expected to play on Day 1, Karlaftis is sort of on an island there," he said. "I heard the point coming in about McDuffie, and yeah, they traded up for him, he he's expected to be a Day 1 starter ... but if he does struggle in the beginning, the Chiefs added like 15 defensive backs this offseason. And that should equate to five or six in the room, maybe another two on the practice squad. You can delay it a little bit as you coach him up and he comes into his own. Karlaftis is going to have to be that guy. You're at a point where, if Chris Jones is tweeting out that he's going to be the defensive player of the year, okay, you better follow that up with at least 10 sacks, right? You need almost a similar type of production, in my opinion, out of George Karlaftis."
