Will the Chiefs get a primetime game to start the 2021 NFL season?

Chiefs Insider Pete Sweeney called into 610 to talk about the schedule reveal and more.

There's plenty of anticipation building ahead of Wednesday night's 2021 NFL schedule reveal. Everyone already knows who they'll be playing next season, but the league's found a way to market this reveal into its own day-long event, and fans eat it up. Who will the Chiefs kick off the season against? Will they get a primetime game on Opening Weekend? 610's Chiefs Insider Pete Sweeny called into 610's Fescoe In The Morning to give his thoughts:

"If you look at the teams [on the schedule], there's a lot of teams you can make a case for primetime treatment," he said. "The Chiefs have the Ravens on the schedule. The Cleveland Browns … The Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles always makes sense for Andy Reid. The Titans are there. I would love if the Chiefs were able to get one of these Opening Weekend primetime games, but a lot times that doesn't seem to come for Kansas City, for whatever reason.

"Let's assume the Chiefs, or I should say the NFL, wants to take advantage of the Chiefs and Mahomes and the fanfare. Who knows? Maybe you put an AFC title rematch between the Chiefs and the Bills on Opening Weekend. Maybe you take a risk and you say, 'All right, you think that things are going to work out between the Packers and Aaron Rodgers. Let's get that game on the schedule Week 1.' So lot of options, and we know the NFL loves to feature Patrick Mahomes, so hopefully we get a season start with a bang here."
