Who to blame for the Chiefs' lackluster 3-4 start to the 2021 season probably depends on who you ask. Plenty will point to a porous defense, whether it's the struggling secondary or lack of effective pass rush. There are others pointing at Pat Mahomes and his league-leading turnover rate, or a group of young players that haven't quite lived up to the potential that was expected from them this year. For Chiefs writer Pete Sweeney, Andy Reid is the guy the guy to blame. The Arrowhead Pride Editor-in-Chief joined 610's Fescoe In The Morning on Tuesday to explain why.
"It's got to be Coach Andy Reid," Sweeney said. "I think he would tell you the same thing. It's designed that way. For example, when Brett Veach drafts a player, and he works out, we'll quickly say, 'well, hey, Andy signs off on that.' Yeah, well, if Andy's signing off on everything -- like if there's a defensive change, 99% of it might be Steve Spagnuolo, but guess who's going to make sure that that 99 reaches 100%? It's Andy Reid. That's how the Cheifs organization is designed. How is Patrick Mahomes playing? A lot of it has to do with the quarterback whisperer that is Andy Reid. Which is how he wants it... but that's who it's on, because he makes all the final decisions. I think it's going to take him really digging this team out from both a mental and physically standpoint."
