(610 Sports) – The 2021 MLB trade deadline has passed and Royals GM Dayton Moore joined 'Fescoe in the Morning' on 610 Sports for his weekly appearance to discuss the future of the team, moving forward.

Moore not only discussed the moves the team made, but he also talked about the moves they didn't make and what factors played into those decisions. When discussing the roster moving forward, one position of note was shortstop and the future of the oft-injured Adalberto Mondesi.

Asked if Mondesi could be counted on as the team's shortstop in 2022, Moore was very blunt, "No. You can't... We're learning that we're going to have to manage his workloads in ways that he may not be a guy that plays more than 100 games... We can't count on him as an everyday player."

It should be noted that Moore wasn't shutting the door on Mondesi and was clear that there would be a role for him on the team, saying “we’re not going to release him, we’re going to continue to stay with him, obviously.” But he added, “we’ve got to make sure we put that roster together in a way that protects us.

While Moore's words may seem harsh, they aren't without merit. Mondesi has appeared in only ten games this season, missing time on two separate occasions with hamstring and oblique injuries. Mondesi has yet to appear in more than 102 games in an MLB season.
