(610 Sports) -- The Royals have announced that shortstop Adalberto Mondesi has been activated from the injured list and is set to make his season debut tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Mondesi has yet to play an MLB game in 2021 as he started the year on the injured list. In a truncated 2020 season, Mondesi slashed .256/.294/.416 with a .710 OPS in 59 games. Mondesi led the league in stolen bases last year with 24.
Mondesi will play shortstop and bat seventh in the order against the Rays. There had been a lot of talk about a return to the Royals and when the team optioned right-handed pitcher Jake Newberry to Triple-A Omaha and moved infielder/outfielder Huner Dozier from the seven-day injured list to the 10-day injured list, people knew Mondesi's return was imminent.
