Are MLB owners really going to start cancelling games?

It's the question on every single baseball fan's mind right now: are MLB's owners really OK with cancelling games? Though there seems to be some optimism growing in recent days and hours, both sides technically missed the deadline that owners set before they'd start axing games. So is that going to happen? 610's Royals Insider Josh Vernier joined The Drive earlier this week to break it down:

"I think owners around Major League Baseball all learned that wins and losses, fans in the stands, none of that really affects the bottom line if you don't want it to," he said. "If you don't care about sitting through sports radio and the occasional fan on the street, their disapproval with the way that you handle their big-league club, there's a lot of money to be made in Major League Baseball. Even more than there is attempting to win on the field ... [The owners] just want the status quo. That's how dominating they've been in the past two CBA negotiations. We don't want much to change if we're the ownership group because we are paying you a lot less than a 51-49 split like we're seeing in the other leagues. And we have basically a hard salary cap with this CBT, which is basically a soft salary cap, a luxury tax. So the owners really don't want much to change."
