(610 Sports) – According to MLB Insider Robert Murray, the Atlanta Braves are in agreement with the Royals to acquire outfielder Jorge Soler, just prior to the MLB trade deadline. The Royals will receive pitching prospect RHP Kasey Kalich, who will be assigned to A+ Quad Cities.
While Soler's stat line of .195/.289/.376 for the season makes it hard to believe anyone would trade for him, the guy that hit 48 homers in 2019 has been a different hitter since the All-Star break. Soler just came through a stretch where he was 7-20 with 7 home runs and has been taking walks at a much higher rate.
For the most part, Soler has failed to live up to live up to expectations this season, like much of the team, leaving Royals fans scratching their heads as to why he continued to be the every day right fielder. Soler's strugglers mirrored the teams, who had higher expectations following an off season that saw the front office bring in Carlos Santana, Andrew Benintendi and Mike Minor.
Soler's not going to win Atlanta a Gold Glove in right field but if he's starting to get locked in, the Braves may have just made the most under-the-radar trades, this season.
