Take it from Danny Duffy: living in Kansas City for over a decade doesn't make you immune from the Pat Mahomes Effect. Duffy, who's now a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers after 11 years with the Royals, called into 610's Fescoe In The Morning on Tuesday to tell a funny story about meeting Mahomes, and how the Chiefs' star QB is one of the very few athletes that's left Duffy speechless.
"Of course, of course," Duffy replied when asked if he really got tongue-tied around Mahomes. "The guy's good at everything. He's a great guy, he's everything Kansas City is. That whole city's on fire about him. The whole dang country is on fire about him. So yeah, man, I got respect for that dude. I didn't know what to say. I know Travis [Kelce] somewhat well, I'd consider him a friend. Me and him were talking and here comes Patrick walking into the clubhouse. I was like, 'play it cool, play it cool.' I shook his hand, and I think I said something along the lines of a bland, 'nice to meet you, man.' But really I wanted to congratulate him on everything he's doing, and firing up the city the way he has.
"I think it's really cool what he's doing and the fact that he's been able to keep it together and be professional and be everything everyone says he is. It's really impressive, especially at his age."
Duffy then gets into a great story about Tommy Lasorda, his time with the Royals, and what his MLB future entails. You can listen to the entire interview in the player below:
