Though JJ Picollo's already plenty familiar with his new position as Royals' GM, the adjustment from the player development side -- where he's been since being hired by Dayton Moore in 2006 -- isn't insignificant. After being named GM earlier this week, Picollo called into 610's Cody and Gold on Wednesday to detail just how his job duties, on a day-to-day basis, will change now.
"Really just that my main focus needs to be on the Major League team and everything that's happening surrounding the Major League team," he said. "I've always kept an eye on what's happening, but also kept a closer eye on all the things that are happening in the Minor Leagues, and paying a little bit of attention to what's going on in the draft. But really just the day-to-day operations of the Major League team has got to be the focus ... all in all, I think the focus has got to be on the big league team right now. That's part of why these departments have expanded so much, and we have so many more people working within baseball operations than we did in '06 when we got here. With that, we get a chance to really be focused on one area and try to excel in that area."
