With all the attention focused on Zack Greinke's return to Kansas City, there hasn't been a lot of conversation this spring about the rest of the Royals' rotation. Brad Keller, Brady Singer, Carlos Hernandez, and Daniel Lynch all figure to be heavily involved one way or the other, but just how ready the young pitchers are to take the next step and make the Royals' competitive still remains to be seen. Talking on 610's The Drive, team insider Josh Vernier explained why the rotation is far-and-away the team's biggest mystery.
"One gigantic question mark, top to bottom," he said. "I could sit here and give you all the optimistic opinions ... I think there's going to be nine starting pitchers on the Opening Day roster. I could tell you all the great things about them, I could tell you all the questions that we have about them going into the season. That's what makes this team bountiful when it comes to content. The old adage is that you never want to be mediocre. Either be really good or really bad, as far as our profession of sports radio is concerned. I can't imagine this team ever lacking in content, whether it's just Bobby Witt Jr. and Zak Greinke, to all the young guys ... the rotation and the offense are one giant question mark."
