Each week Christine and Salt interview the Badass Woman of the Week, a feature that aims to reward women who have overcome a challenge and emerged stronger as a result. Each Badass Woman wins an empowering B Badass bracelet from The Power to B and is featured on-air Fridays at 7:15 A.M. with Christine and Salt in the morning.
This week's honoree is Alisa Bowens-Mercado — the Founder, CEO, and Brewmaster of Rhythm Brewing Co. Affectionately known as "Lady Lager", she made history by becoming the first African-American, woman-owned beer brand in the state of Connecticut and the fourth African-American, woman-owned beer brand in the country. Alisa, is also the owner and dance director of Alisa's House of Salsa. The House of Salsa was established 22 years ago and has taught thousands of people with two left feet throughout the years. We love that Alisa has managed to combine the things she loves — beer and salsa dancing!
Alisa's foray into becoming a badass brewmaster begins In 2018 when she glided onto the beer scene. Recognizing a significant gap in the $114 billion beer industry, she has made it her mission to tap into an "untapped" and under served demographic in the country.
Alisa is dedicated to mentoring and paying it forward to entrepreneurs, her motto is to build more tables to pull up more seats. So pull up a seat and listen to Alisa's inspiring interview with Christine and Salt below, including how she's teamed up with the Connecticut Brewers Guild to offer the Connecticut Brewers Guild African American Brewing Scholarship at Sacred Heart University. CHEERS!
