Every week, Christine and Salt interview the Badass Woman of the Week, celebrating women who've conquered challenges and emerged stronger. The honoree receives an empowering B Badass bracelet from The Power to B and is showcased on-air Fridays at 7:15 AM with Christine and Salt.

Meet this week’s Badass Woman: Amy Reay of Suffield. Amy came into the lives of the Uricchio family six years ago as a pet sitter. But during the pandemic, when many people stayed home and Amy suddenly lost all her pet-sitting clients—and with it, her income—she quickly became so much more.

Both Meg Uricchio and her husband are essential workers and had to continue reporting to work through COVID, while also caring for two small children and a rambunctious lab puppy. Amy stepped in without hesitation, transitioning from caring for their pets to becoming a full-time childcare provider. She’s remained a vital part of the family’s life ever since.

What makes Amy truly extraordinary is that she has done all of this while being 100% deaf.

Amy lost her hearing due to a debilitating illness called Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2), a rare condition that changed the course of her life—but never dimmed her spirit. She has navigated a global pandemic, the chaos of toddlers, and the energy of a young dog with incredible strength, patience, and resilience.
