This week’s Badass Woman of the Week doesn’t just have an impressive résumé — she’s spent decades showing Connecticut women and girls what leadership looks like. We’re celebrating Connecticut Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz!
A Middletown native who grew up working on her family’s farm, Susan went on to graduate from Yale University and Duke Law School before building a career in law, business and public service. She served in the Connecticut General Assembly, spent more than a decade as Connecticut’s Secretary of the State, and is now serving her second term as Connecticut’s 109th lieutenant governor. And one reason she was a perfect fit for Badass Woman of the Week? She’s made lifting up other women and girls part of the job.
Bysiewicz chairs the Governor’s Council on Women and Girls, which focuses on education and STEAM, health and safety, economic opportunity and workplace equity, and creating more opportunities for women in leadership. She’s also helped encourage the next generation through initiatives like the Lieutenant Governor’s Computing Challenge. During the 2025–26 school year, more than 930 student projects were submitted, with young women and girls represented in 16 of the 26 projects ultimately recognized.
