📚📓✏️🍎 Friday, August 25th Clear the List ProHealth Physician spotlight: Wow, Clear the List has been such a success! We've had an incredible two weeks of helping out teachers by clearing their lists. And to wrap it all up, Christine and Salt had a chat with ProHealth Physician Dr. Joy Hong, a Pediatric Regional Medical Director and Pediatrician at Glastonbury Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine. She explains why giving is not just good for your soul but also for your health – and she's got the scientific data to back it up! She's beyond grateful for the support and believes it's essential for teachers to feel seen and appreciated in this world! Outside of school, she's a supermom to two college-bound kids with unique learning styles. Despite her own challenges, she's a living example of overcoming obstacles. Rachel works at a school where most of the students come from lower-income families. Every year, she ends up using her own money to replace stuff that students naturally take home. This time around, things got trickier — Rachel had a baby. The kicker? There's no paid maternity leave for her, and state assistance wasn't in the cards. She only had eight sick days banked, and with a new baby and the whole back-to-school setup thing, this summer's been pretty financially stretched for her. Teaching for 13 years in CT, including 3 years at JFK, Karri mostly works in low-income areas where both students and families often need extra support. In these situations, teachers often end up paying for supplies out of their own pockets to ensure their students have what they need to succeed. Last year, Karri revamped her classroom theme, spending more than usual. This year, she's aiming to make her classroom even more inviting with new decorations and essential supplies. Despite math not being a top favorite, Karri is committed to creating a supportive and positive space.
