CCSU history professor Dr. Matt Warshauer (with his dog, Zuzu!) reveals why Connecticut deserves a lot more Revolutionary War credit.

CT250: Dr. Matt Warshauer explains why Connecticut Was a Revolutionary Badass

With America celebrating its 250th birthday, we figured it was time for a history refresher—so we invited Central Connecticut State University history professor Dr. Matt Warshauer to call in — with his famous classroom sidekick, Zuzu the dog, sitting on his lap the whole time. 🎧 Listen to Christine Lee’s full interview with Dr. Matt Warshauer (and Zuzu!) below and prepare to become the smartest person at your Fourth of July cookout.

Dr. Matt believes Connecticut’s history deserves a lot more attention and adds that we should be more engaged in our history than we are. Ahead of his Scholars for Life talk at CCSU, he shared why our state was one of the true powerhouses of the American Revolution.

News flash: Stop calling Connecticut a “drive-through state!”

According to Dr. Matt, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts wouldn’t have survived the Revolutionary War without Connecticut. We supplied troops, food, weapons and countless resources, earning the nickname “The Provision State.” One of the coolest things we learned? Connecticut has its own Declaration of Independence, and you can actually see it at the Museum of Connecticut History on Capitol Avenue in Hartford.

It’s perfect timing because the museum is opening a special exhibition, Connecticut’s Revolution, celebrating the state’s incredible role in America’s founding as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Honestly? We think Connecticut license plates should say “Revolutionary Badass.” (Okay, maybe that’s a long shot. 😂)
