Gavin Malone, a standout student from Bethel High School, is about to embark on an adventure worthy of a Top Gun pilot! Gavin has been selected for the prestigious U.S. Navy Summer Flight Academy at Delaware State University. This elite eight-week program, running from June 9 to August 2, will see Gavin earn his FAA Private Pilot’s license. He’s one of just 28 high-achieving students nationwide chosen for this incredible opportunity aimed at increasing exposure to Naval Aviation.
Growing up, Gavin’s love for flying was inspired by his dad, a pilot for American Airlines, who would show him all the planes. Gavin’s been watching “Top Gun: Maverick” on repeat, getting pumped up and ready for the challenge ahead. When asked what his call sign would be, Gavin confidently says, “DAREDEVIL!”
Is he considering a career in the armed forces? Absolutely! Gavin is eyeing both the USAF Academy and the Naval Academy. His friends back home think it’s the coolest thing ever and can’t wait for him to return to Connecticut to give them a ride. Just imagine—a guy who got his driver’s license last year will be flying planes at 17 — Go Top Gun, go!
