Every week, Christine and Salt interview the Badass Woman of the Week, celebrating women who've conquered challenges and emerged stronger. The honoree receives an empowering B Badass bracelet from The Power to B and is showcased on-air Fridays at 7:15 AM with Christine and Salt.
Kerri Scott of Windsor is one proud and extraordinary mama, and she’s our Badass Woman of the Week! Her story is as inspiring as it gets, starting with her incredible son, Alex, who is named after Kerri’s niece—the Alex of Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Alex’s Lemonade Stand has become a symbol of hope and resilience, honoring Alex’s memory after she passed away at just 8 years old from cancer.
Kerri’s son, Alex, is a marvel in his own right. Despite being diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis, a genetic disorder that causes developmental delays and autism, Alex is a musical savant. Kerri shares, “We were told he might never talk. He had part of his brain removed at just 18 months to stop the 80 partial seizures he was having a day.”
Against all odds, Alex has flourished. He entered a talent contest through Garden of Dreams, leading him to perform at Radio City Music Hall, mentored by none other than Darryl McDaniels of Run DMC. Through Garden of Dreams, he was also invited to sing the National Anthem at a New York Rangers hockey game—earning roaring applause.

Now 18, Alex can speak fully and sings with a talent that amazes everyone. Kerri proudly says, “He asks me all the time, ‘So anybody can’t just walk into Radio City or Madison Square Garden and sing, Mom?’” For Alex, singing is pure joy, and he doesn’t realize how unique his gift is.
Kerri’s unwavering advocacy for her son and her determination to inspire others are what make her a true badass. “For me, I look at life like this: my brother will never have his daughter Alex of Alex’s Lemonade Stand back, and I have my son here. No matter what his mental capacity, I’m determined to advocate for him and develop him to the best of his ability,” Kerri says.
She adds, “I want his story out there for anyone who might need to hear it—someone struggling in life to know they can get through anything, or parents of kids with his disorder to know they can come to me for support. And for every parent or educator to know they should never give up on a child because you never know what they’ll achieve.”
Kerri Scott, for your fierce love, advocacy, and unrelenting support of Alex’s incredible journey, we proudly crown you our Badass Woman of the Week!
