The first woman ever promoted to deputy chief in the Waterbury Police Department’s 173-year history joins Christine & Salt to talk about breaking barriers, leading with purpose, and inspiring the next generation.

History was made in Waterbury when Nadine Amatruda became the first woman ever promoted to deputy chief in the department’s 173-year history. A 20-year veteran of the force, Amatruda has spent her career serving the community in a variety of roles, including the sex crimes unit, while also helping secure funding for programs that benefit both officers and the public. Now, she’s stepping into the department’s second-highest leadership position.

During her conversation with Christine & Salt, Amatruda reflected on what the milestone means—not just for her, but for every young woman who has ever wondered if a career in law enforcement leadership was possible. She acknowledged that the path hasn’t always been easy, but said perseverance, preparation, and believing in yourself can open doors that once seemed out of reach. Congratulations to Deputy Chief Nadine Amatruda, this week’s Badass Woman of the Week.
