11 TV shows to binge-watch before their final seasons premiere in 2021

While the new year can mark a fresh start for many TV shows, it can also be the end of the road for some long-running ones.

With plenty of critically-acclaimed and fan-favorite shows taking their final bow in 2021, now is the perfect time to get up to speed and binge-watch all the previous seasons. Who knows? Maybe you'll even be able to catch the series finale while it's airing in real time!

Here are 11 shows ending this year that you need to add to your “must-watch” list.

Grace and Frankie

The comedy finds two rivals (played by Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda) coping with the reality that their husbands are together and planning a wedding. Netflix picked up the series – which will make history as the streamer’s longest-running original series with 94 episodes – for its seventh and final season back in 2019. As of now, there is no release date as filming was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ozark

The captivating world of money laundering has kept fans glued to the TV for three seasons. Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) and wife Wendy navigate the deep waters of the Ozark's while leaving behind quite a body count in order to spare themselves and their family. Netflix renewed the series in June for a “supersized” final season.

Better Call Saul

The “Breaking Bad” prequel follows the trajectory of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk’s) transformation into Walter White’s criminal lawyer Saul Goodman. The good news is you don’t have to watch “Breaking Bad” to enjoy this series, but you’re more than welcome to as you wait for the sixth and final season, which is delayed due to the COVID pandemic.

Dead to Me

If “poor choices” had a name, it would be Jen Harding (Christina Applegate) and Judy Hale (Linda Cardellini). The comedy-drama is filled with unexpected twists, dark humor, and a murder mystery that will leave you on the edge of your seat. It was renewed last July for a third and final season, which hopefully means these two ladies will finally catch a break.

Claws

The series about a nail salon in Florida that serves as a front for a drug operation was supposed to end last year, but it was delayed due to a production hiatus amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It will wrap up the ongoing plots when season 4 eventually debuts.

Dear White People

The Netflix original series, which is based on the book of the same name, tackles timely-issues of race, identity, and appropriation as it follows college students at the fictional ivy league school of Winchester University. The comedy will wrap up with a fourth season airing sometime in 2021.

Lucifer

The devoted fandom was thrilled when Lucifer resurrected on Netflix for an additional two seasons after being previously canceled by Fox after four seasons. Based on a graphic novel of the same name, the crime drama finds detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) seeking out the help of Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) to solve a murder at his nightclub. The sixth and final season is set to be released later this year.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians

After 20 years and 14 seasons, the Kardashian-Jenner clan is signing off!. The reality TV show – which launched in 2007, spawned several different spinoffs, and made the women a household name – will air its final season later this year. Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kris, Kylie, and Kendall all documented the final day of filming recently. Following the show’s end, they will be moving to Hulu after signing a “multi-year” content deal.

Shameless

Whenever someone mentions the most dysfunctional family on television, your mind immediately goes to the Gallaghers. Last year, Showtime announced that the 11th season would be the family's last. Thanks to a COVID delay, the season premiered last month and will wrap up later this year.

Supergirl

The CW is saying goodbye to two superhero shows in 2021: “Black Lightning” and “Supergirl.” The latter concludes after six seasons of Kara aka Supergirl and her friends at the DEO putting their lives on the line to save the people of National City. New episodes are being filmed in January and February of 2021, which means the series will air its final run sometime in the midseason.

Superstore

After six seasons of workplace shenanigans, the NBC comedy is coming to an end. The final 11 episodes kick off with the winter premiere on January 14. The end comes just weeks after the show’s star and executive producer, America Ferrera (who played Amy), exited the comedy.
