Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - The man who hit a Hartford police cruiser with his vehicle while fleeing a traffic stop two years ago, killing a Hartford detective, was sentenced Friday.
Richard Barrington, now 20, gets 30 years in prison, suspended after 16 years, along with five years probation.
Detective Bobby Garten was killed.
Officer Brian Kearney was seriously injured after Barrington smashed into their cruiser on Asylum Avenue as they were en route to another call.
Barrington pled guilty to manslaughter and other charges.
The state had recommended 20 years in prison for Barrington.
After the sentence was handed down, Garten's brother Will said they wanted 41 years--one for each year of Bobby's life expectancy.
