Ansonia police encounter unruly mob at street takeover

Ansonia, Conn./WTIC Radio - Police in Ansonia were called to a street takeover early Saturday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Wakelee Avenue and Franklin Street just before 12:30 a.m.

An officer encountered between 50 and 100 people in addition to dozens of cars driving eratically.

Some in the crowd surrounded the cruiser, jumping on it and throwing objects.

The officer hit another vehicle as they attempted to back away.

Once other officers arrived on scene, the unruly mob entered Route 8 in both directions.

Police ask that a video of the incident circulating on social media not be shared.

The investigation is ongoing.
