Groton, Conn./WTIC Radio - A bank robbery in Groton Thursday turned into a standoff and when it was over, one of the suspects was pronounced dead and another hospitalized.

The incident began around 10:30 a.m. when police say Shaun Fallon, 56, and Zachary Fallon, 27, both of Charlestown, Rhode Island, allegedly robbed the Chelsea Groton Bank on Gold Star Highway.

Police say the two are father and son.

Later in the day, police were able to determine that the two suspects were holed up in a Super 8 motel on Route 12.

The motel was evacuated when police say the suspects told them they were armed with explosives and firearms and would not surrender.

State police and other agencies were called in to assist.

Around 11:00 p.m., authorities say they heard two gunshots from inside the suspects' room.

A drone sighting confirmed the two were incapacitated.

Officers say Zachary Fallon died early Friday morning from his injuries. Shaun Fallon remains hospitalizd.

Police say there was no explosive device found in the room.
