Newington police arrest suspect in assault, home invasion

NEWINGTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Newington Police arrested a suspect at Hartford Superior Court for charges in a home invasion of an ex-girlfriend and an assault of her and a male companion with a firearm, police said.

Police allege the incident occurred October 10. After the assault, Jason Jamaal Haynes is accused of shooting the male, causing a life-altering injury.

According to police, Haynes is prohibited from possessing a firearm because he's a convicted felon.

Additionally, police said an active restraining order was in place at the time of the incident.

Three juvenile children witnessed the incident, officials said.

Haynes is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Friday. He faces assault, weapons, home invasion, and risk of injury charges.

Haynes was in Hartford Court on an unrelated charge.
