School buses will run again in Coventry starting Tuesday morning after a weeklong drivers' strike ended.

Coventry Public Schools Superintendent David Petrone made the announcement in a note to parents:

"I am very happy to inform you that the bus drivers’ strike is over and normal transportation will resume for students tomorrow - Tuesday, September 12, 2023. We cannot thank parents enough for your patience, words of support, and resourcefulness during this time. I am forever grateful for this Coventry community."

The strike began last Tuesday, with drivers represented by Teamsters Local 671 seeking new contract terms with Old Saybrook-based M&J Bus.

On Sunday, the drivers had unanimously rejected a contact offer from the company.

By Monday afternoon, the sides agreed on a four-year contract, according to the superintendent.
