(EAST HARTFORD, CONN. WTIC)-Citing a high rate of the Covid variant spread, the town of East Hartford has instituted a mask mandate for retailers and employees.
The mandate went into effect at midnight.
Mayor Marcia Leclerc says the town is providing free signage for retailers, adding about 20 have already shown interest. She says the town is looking for compliance, rather than collecting fines. Retailers and those inside the establishment who fail to wear a mask could face a one hundred dollar fine. The retailer is expected to make masks available for everyone entering it.
Leclerc says the Health Department will oversee the mask mandate.
