
New Haven, Conn./WTIC Radio - Former longtime New Haven State's Attorney Michael Dearington has died.
A post on the Division of Criminal Justice website says Dearington died July 18th at the age of 83.
He served as New Haven state's attorney from 1987 until he retired in 2016.
Prior to that, Dearington was state's attorney for the district of Ansonia/Milford.
“On behalf of the Division of Criminal Justice, I would like to extend my condolences to the family of former State’s Attorney Michael Dearington, an incredible and committed prosecutor dedicated to achieving justice in the many complex and hard-fought cases he tried and supervised during his decades of public service to the state of Connecticut,” said Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin, who became New Haven state's attorney when Dearington retired.
Among the many cases he worked, Dearington prosecuted the Cheshire home invasion and triple homicide in 2007, winning the convictions of the suspects, Steven Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky.
Dearington is survived by his wife and three adult children.
