Hartford PD arrest suspect in fatal pedestrian accident

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - After a month-long investigation, Hartford police arrested a Georgia woman who, according to officials, was the driver in a motor vehicle accident that killed a 55-year-old pedestrian.

Hartford police officers responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Main Street at about 10:00 p.m. on Friday, August 13.

Officers located a 55-year-old female pedestrian upon arrival with critical injuries from a vehicle that struck her, police said.

An ambulance transported the pedestrian to Hartford Hospital where she later died. Police identified her as Cecil Greene, 55, of East Hartford.

The vehicle involved and the driver remained on scene of the accident, officials said.

Detectives later obtained an arrest warrant for the driver of the vehicle.

On Wednesday, September 22, officers took Tyra Givens, 25, of Lawrenceville, GA into custody with the warrant.

Police charged Givens with Negligent Homicide with a Motor Vehicle and Failure of a Vehicle Operator to Exercise Reasonable Care when near a Vulnerable Pedestrian.

Givens was held on bond at the Hartford Police Department detention facility awaiting a court appearance, police said.
