Connecticut State Police

Chaplin, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-A New London man has been extradited from New Hampshire facing charges in the homicide of a Chaplin man
May first, State police said.

Police responded to a home on Miller Street in Chaplin. They found 51-year-old Jeffrey Rawson suffering blunt force trauma to his head and contusions all over his body. Police said some of the nearby objects had blood on them. Rawson later died at Windham Hospital.

According to the arrest  warrant, Candler threatened two other people inside the home after the attack, saying "if anyone moves, I'll kill you all." One of them said during the struggle Candler struck the victim in the head several times with a lamp, and then kicked and stomped Rawson on his head and neck. One witness said they didn't know what prompted the attack.

Candler then fled the scene in a Ford F-350. A tip from a cab driver allowed Seabrook New Hampshire Police to develop information on Candler's whereabouts. He was traced to the  Seabrook Inn Motel in Seabrook New Hampshire. According to the arrest warrant, when taken into custody, he said to Police,  "just kill me."

Candler is charged with first degree assault and appears in Danielson Superior Court today.
