Every week, Christine and Salt interview the Badass Woman of the Week, celebrating women who've conquered challenges and emerged stronger. The honoree receives an empowering B Badass bracelet from The Power to B and is showcased on-air Fridays at 7:15 AM with Christine and Salt.
This week, we’re shining a spotlight on Danielle Afonso of Plainville, known as the Queen of Halloween for her amazing haunted yard display on Rockwell Ave, across from Sliders. But it’s more than just spooky fun—Danielle uses her love of Halloween to raise money for Skeletons for Hope for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Outside her home, visitors will find a QR code where they can donate directly to the cause. You can also click her personal donation link here.

Danielle’s involvement is part of a larger national effort called Skeletons for St. Jude (SSJ), where “home haunters” use Halloween displays to support families impacted by childhood cancer. SSJ has raised over $647,000 to date, with a goal of hitting $1 million by 2025. This effort started in Holly Springs, NC in 2020 and has grown to include nearly 1,000 homes nationwide, all using their spooky spirit to give back. SSJ has also partnered with FrightMaps, an app that helps Halloween lovers find the best attractions, including those supporting St. Jude.

Danielle’s love for Halloween is a family affair—her husband serves in the Air Force, and their military family has always made giving back a priority. She jokes that her extravagant spending on decorations hasn’t ruined her marriage—because it’s all for a good cause!

Support Danielle and Skeletons for Hope by visiting her display, donating through the QR code, or downloading FrightMaps to find other haunts near you supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Together, we can help sick children get well and enjoy the magic of Halloween! Listen to Danielle's interview with Christine and Salt below!🎃👻
