NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—An early morning investigation of a suspicious vehicle Tuesday led to two arrests, including one for the assault of a police officer, after police say an officer was injured when one suspect tried to flee.
At about 6:15 a.m. in the area of Westomere Place and Montauk Ave, New London police officers responded to a report of a suspicious event involving a white vehicle.
Upon arrival, police spoke with two occupants of the vehicle: the operator Kyndrel Dawson, 25, of Willimantic and the front seat passenger Diamond English, 20, of New London.
According to police, English first offered a different name and date of birth because of an active family violence protective order of which Dawson was later determined to be in violation.
When an officer tried to get Dawson to exit the vehicle, police said, Dawson sped off, dragging the officer across Westomere Place onto Montauk Ave where the officer fell to the pavement.
New London authorities said Dawson was later founding fleeing on foot along I-95 and subsequently apprehended.
Groton, Ledyard and Connecticut State Police assisted New London Police in searching for Dawson. A Groton Town Police Officer located the vehicle.
Dawson was held on a $250,000 bond for seven different charges, including Assault on a Police Officer, Violation of a Protective Order and Reckless Driving.
Police also charged English with Criminal Impersonation and Interfering with Police. She was held on a $25,000 bond.
The New London officer was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital and was later released.
