South Windsor, Conn./WTIC Radio - A New York City man is accused of swindling a 90-year-old victim out of tens of thousands of dollars in South Windsor.

Police are charging 42-year-old Qiao Zheng of Brooklyn.

Police say it was all part of an elaborate bitcoin scheme.

Detectives say the victim received an email from someone claiming to work for PayPal saying a transaction on the victim's account had been flagged.

The victim then handed over $49,900 to a courier.

They say Zheng allegedly accessed the victim's computer through a fraudulent link, requesting a transfer into a separate account.

When that didn't work the victim then withdrew money from various bank branches for a transfer to a courier to be picked up.

Police were in the neighborhood when the suspect contacted the victim for an additional $20,000.

Zheng faces a charge of conspiracy to commit larceny.
