Temperatures are expected to shoot up past 50 degrees but then crash when a storm passes by on Friday.

The protocol goes into effect from Friday at 6pm through Monday at noon.

Under the protocol, a system is set up for the state's most vulnerable populations to receive protection from the severe cold conditions, which could be life threatening if exposed to the elements for extended periods of time.

State agencies and cities and towns coordinate with United Way 211 to get services to those who need them including shelter and transportation.
