West Haven, Conn./WTIC Radio - Two men are under arrest after West Haven police say they attempted to steal at least two catalytic converters and assaulted a police officer in the process.
Investigators say it all started just before 1:30 p.m. at West Haven High School.
The school resource officer reported two men identified as Charlie Martinez-Rojas and Emmanuel Luna entered the grounds and removed a converter from a vehicle.
The two fled down Main Street after they attempted to remove another converter when they were spotted by a detective sergeant, police said.
The driver lost control and hit a parked car on First Avenue.
Martinez-Rojas and Luna both attempted to flee on foot.
Luna, police say, tried to carjack a tow truck operator.
When that failed, Luna allegedly began assaulting an officer before he was arrested. Martinez-Rojas was located a short time later.
Both suspects are now facing a slew of charges, including burglary, larceny, reckless driving and assault on a public safety officer.
