Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - This hot weather will be sticking around for awhile.

Health experts are advising residents to take it easy when it comes to strenuous activity.


They're advising avoiding the outdoors if possible during the hottest times of the day.

Dr. Jennifer Martin, chief of emergency medicine at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, says it you have to be out, drink plenty of water.

She also advises steering clear of alcohol and caffeine, which can lead to dehydration.

When it comes to keeping your home cool and energy efficient, Tricia Modifica with Eversource, says keep air conditioning set at a moderate but comfortable temperature.

Also, she says keep shades and blinds drawn in the home, which can reduce the temperature indoors by up to 20 degrees.
