STORRS, Conn. (AP) - The University of Connecticut canceled classes on its main campus for the second time in a week on Thursday after another power outage on campus.
UConn spokesperson Stephanie Reitz said the cause of the power failure, which was affecting several academic buildings, wasn't known, but it was traced to two underground electrical circuits, including one involved in a similar issue on Monday.
Reitz said classes were canceled for the day on Thursday afternoon because the buildings involved host many afternoon and evening classes.
She said crews were checking underground along the lengths of the power circuits involved. The power was restored by about 3 p.m.
"It was a much quicker repair than we dared to expect, but for which we’re very happy," Reitz said.
Classes remained canceled for the rest of the day, Reitz said, but normal operations were expected to resume Friday.
Classes and operations at the school's regional campuses in Hartford, Stamford, Waterbury, Avery Point, UConn Health, and the School of Law were not affected.
