Storrs, Conn./WTIC Radio - UConn football defensive coordinator Lou Spanos is taking a leave of absence.
In a statement, the university said the 51-year-old Spanos is leaving the team for now for personal reasons.
Spanos was the Huskies defensive coordinator from 2019-to-2021.
He served as interim head coach last year following the retirement after two games of head coach Randy Edsall.
Spanos was tapped by head coach Jim Mora to stay on as defensive coordinator upon Mora's hiring last December.
