New London, Conn./WTIC Radio - Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver the keynote address to the graduating cadets at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London today.

The over 250 who'll receive their commissions as officers is the largest class to ever graduate from the academy.

Vice presidents typically address the graduating class of one of the service academies on a rotating basis.

President Biden, who addressed the USCGA class of 2021, also did so as vice president in 2013.

Former Vice President Mike Pence delivered the USCGA address in 2018.

Academy superintendent Rear Admiral Bill Kelly said last month they are honored to host the vice president.

Security will be tight and the academy is closed today as a result.

WTIC's Daniela Doncel is in New London to cover the graduation ceremony and festivities.
