“Powerpuff Girls” assemble.
The CW has released the first image from the live-action remake of the animated series, reported Variety.
The potential series, entitled “Powerpuff,” stars Dove Cameron as Bubbles, Chloe Bennet as Blossom, and Yana Perrault as Buttercup.
In the image, the three appear decked out in all blue, pink and green modern attire, respectively.
Cameron dons a blue tank top, Bennet wears a pink shirt with a fuchsia blazer, and Perrault wears a green jacket over a similarly colored top.
The new reboot, based on the original Cartoon Network animated series that aired from 1998 - 2005, follows the crime-fighting teenagers Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. Now that they’re in the twenties, the heroines reunite to form the ultimate dream team.
Earlier in the week, a photo of Bennet, Cameron and Perrault in Powerpuff uniforms similar to the outfits on the animated series leaked on social media. Turns out the characters only wear those costumes in flashback scenes, the outlet noted.
Original show creator Craig McCracken will executive produce the pilot alongside Heather Regnier (“Veronica Mars” and “Sleepy Hollow”), Greg Berlanti, Diablo Cody (“Juno”), and Maggie Kiley.
Last month, Cameron expressed her excitement over the project.
“I cannot WAIT for you guys to see this show. the script is unreal, i don’t think i’ve ever laughed out loud so much reading anything. without giving anything away , as a huge fan of the cartoon , this script is my true fantasy!! stay tuuuuuuneddd,” the 25-year-old tweeted.
At this point the project is in the pilot stage, so it's still unknown if The CW will give it a full series order.
