Sharon Stone is talking boldly about the gender pay gap in Hollywood.
Last week at the New York Women in Film & Television’s 43rd annual Muse Awards, Stone revealed she made $500,000 in the 1992 hit thriller “Basic Instinct”, while her co-star Michael Douglas took home $14 million, according to Page Six.
“Michael Douglas made $14 million,” the actress told the crowd. “Now, I was new. I was new and he was a very big star.”
Stone was mostly known for her role in the sci-fi movie “Total Recall” and Douglas came into filming have won two Academy Awards.
She explained how the rough time from “Basic Instinct” did not stop at the pay disparity. One of the producers reportedly referred to her as “Karen” throughout.
“Even at the Governor’s Ball,” after the Oscars, “he still called me ‘Karen!’ And I carried that humiliation really deeply within me – even though my name wasn’t on the poster.”

To help offset the salary difference Stone told InStyle earlier this year she negotiated to keep her costumes from the movie, to be able to sell. Her hopes are her children being able to sell the outfits after she has passed.
