Many people have said that the social distancing society is going through right now is a major overreaction. I can totally see how some people think that we are going too far, since day-to-day life feels SO disrupted.  But right now, as we seek to flatten the curve of the coronavirus, social distancing can do a lot to help protect the vulnerable. This epsiode of Scrubs uses a green "germ" animation to show how quickly a virus can spread from simple human-to-human contact:

As you can see, an elderly patient was packed up and ready to go home from the hospital... until a bumbling intern spreads a disease to her at the last minute. In the next episode of the series, we see the fate of the patient. Hint: it's not good.

Obviously, this is a fictional program, but they perfectly illustrate WHY social distancing is so important. If the intern had washed his hands after touching an infected glove, he would have killed the germs. If the intern had not touched the patient's hand, she could have been protected. You see the disease spread to her face after she holds her hands up to her mouth (touching your face is also a social distancing no-no).

It's a great reminder to stick to the basics - WASH YOUR HANDS frequently, don't touch your face, avoid shaking hands, and try to keep your distance all-around. Maybe stream Scurbs and stay inside for the next week instead of going out in public and potentially spreading the virus. It can save lives!
