Officers shot, injured in downtown St. Louis as attacks on law enforcement skyrocket nationwide

(KFTK – St. Louis) A 23-year-old man is facing charges after police say he shot at officers and ran into a patrol car in downtown St. Louis.

Peter Webb is charged with assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and resisting arrest.

Police say four officers were on patrol just after 1:00 am when they responded to a Crown Mart on N. 13th Street.

While there, Webb drove by and fired shots at their patrol car. When police pursued, Webb did a U-turn and rammed into a patrol car. One officer was shot in the elbow, another officer injured his knee while arresting the suspect and a third officer injured his head when Webb rammed into his patrol car.

Jeff Roorda, Business Manager for the St. Louis Police Officers Association, joins Marc to discuss the unwavering attack and assault on local and national law enforcement.

On the shooting over the weekend, Roorda says that crime is so bad in that area that the officers didn’t even realize they were being shot at until the bullets hit the car.

Motive? Roorda says it seems like ‘suicide by cop’.

Roorda points to rampant crime statistics in the area as a draw for this type of crime. There have been 160 homicides in the city this year alone.
